Artwork Statement 作品簡介 

This sculptural study of the male back torso Is rendered in stainless steel wire mesh, a material chosen for its industrial resilience and ethereal transparency. The anatomical contours are captured with meticulous attention to proportion and tension. 

Vertical stitches of ultramarine blue embroidery thread run across the torso. The thread's density and placement evoke the illusion of light, an ephemeral blue radiance that appears to wash across the figure's surface. This interplay between rigid structure and soft embellishment invites reflection on dualities, strength and vulnerability, permanence and transience, body and aura. 

About Artist 關於藝術家 

Gavin Tu was born in Saigon, it was in Australia where he received his architectural training. For the past three decades, Hong Kong has been home to Gavin. 

Gavin’s creative talents not only show through his works in interior projects, but also in painting and sculptures. 

In his paintings, Gavin has developed his signature style of using monochromatic acrylic in his depictions of human torsos and buddhas. For his sculptures, the beauty of lines and curves is exemplified in innovative materials. 

Gavin’s work can be found in private and corporate collections in Hong Kong and oversea.
